A very old axiom suggests, “a picture is worth a thousand words.” Long before the axiom, Jesus verbally painted word pictures, called parables, to teach, illustrate and emphasize important Christian truths for his disciples and for all believers who would follow.
While there are 15 parables in the Old Testament, this study focuses on Jesus and his teachings to the disciples. It is significant that Jesus began to use this form of teaching causing His disciples to ask why (Matthew 13:34). In His reply we understand that it was His way of revealing truth to the spiritual and ready minded, while concealing it from others, namely those who had rejected Him as Israel’s King.
Pastor Walt Bosman has selected the following parables for this study. He offers them prayerfully for you, the viewer, to aid your understanding and spiritual growth.
Lazarus and the Rich Man (Luke 16:19-31)
